Leonard Henley Davis was born on 17 May 1859 at Williamsburg, Virginia. He was the son of Joshua A. Davis and Lauretta Edwina Tilledge.

Leonard Henley Davis appeared in the 1860 census on 19 June 1860 as a household member living with Joshua A. Davis at Williamsburg, Virginia. The official date for this census was 01 June 1860. He was listed as Lennie Davis, age 1, born in Williamsburg,Virginia.1

Leonard Henley Davis appeared in the 1870 census as a son of Joshua A. Davis Williamsburg, Virginia, 8 July 1870. He was listed as Leonard Davis, age 11, born in Virginia, attending school.2

Leonard Henley Davis married Annie Helen (?) in 1880.3

Leonard Henley Davis appeared in the 1900 census as the head of household on 2 June 1900 at 431 Randolf Street, Portsmouth, Virginia. Also living in the house was his wife, Annie Helen Davis, his son, Leonard Leslie Davis Sr., his daughter, Bertha Helen Davis. He was listed as Leonard H Davis, age 41, married 20 years. He was born May 1859 in Virginia. His occupation was superintendent for W C. Ferris.3

When he was 45, his wife, Annie Helen Davis, died on 18 February 1905 at Portsmouth, Virginia.4

Leonard Henley Davis married Lulu Allen, daughter of Joseph H Allen and Maria Lipscomb Garthright, in 1907.

Leonard Henley Davis appeared in the 1910 census as the head of household on 21 April 1910 at Portsmouth, Virginia. Also living in the house was his wife, Lulu Allen, his son, Leonard Leslie Davis Sr. and Leonard H Davis Jr, his daughter, Bertha Helen Davis. He was listed as Leonadr H Davis, age 49, married twice, born in Virginia. He had been married for 3 years. He was superintendent of the water works.5

Leonard Henley Davis died in 1925 at Portsmouth, Virginia. He was buried in 1925 in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lot 514, Ave "E", space 10, located at 291 Peninsula Avenue, Portsmouth, Virginia. See diagram provided by cemetery dated 23 June 1995 and caretaker Roy Leinart. Their records state: Leonard H. Davis 1859-1925.

His wife, Lula Allen Davis, was buried after 19 March 1969 in Oak Grove Cemetery at 291 Peninsula Avenue, Portsmouth, Virginia.
